about groundworks

Groundworks Ministries has become a worldwide community of people who are committed to reading God’s Word together every day.  We began organized meetings in a Southern California home in January 2005.  Eventually, we began using the internet and social media to raise awareness and promote local gatherings, primarily in the Southern California coffeehouses of Orange County and the Inland Empire.  We have since spread to multiple communities in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.  People of various ethnic and economic backgrounds have joined us, all with one goal: to know God’s Word, to obey it, and to make it known to others. We are presently based in Memphis, Tennessee.

We believe that prayer is a function of God’s grace, in that He has given us the ability to boldly approach Him in order to worship Him and petition His provision.  We believe prayer works. We believe there are things the Lord would provide for us, if we seek Him in prayer, that He may not otherwise provide.  We believe the words of Jesus who said there are some things that are only possible through prayer and fasting. (Matthew 17:21)

We believe the Bible is the inerrant and infallible Word of God in its original text. We believe God’s Word endures forever; therefore, it is not culture that determines the relevance of the Bible. Throughout history, the Bible determines whether culture pleases or offends the Lord.

Reading the Bible with someone who encourages our Biblical pursuit is better than reading alone.  Depending on where you live, there may already be Groundworks Ministries groups that you can join. These groups consist of people who are reading the Bible together “on the same page”. They meet at least once a week in order to discuss whatever chapter they are reading that day.

If a local Groundworks Ministries group does not exist, you are always free to join us online at our website or join one of our various Facebook Groups. Perhaps, you want to start your own Groundworks Ministries group and ask your friends to join you. At that point, we suggest you and your group begin in the gospel of Matthew.

Groundworks Ministries teaching resources are being developed and published daily, so check our website frequently. The daily email devotional correspondence from Groundworks Ministries acts as a personal trainer for your Bible study. Weekly interaction with other Christians in a Groundworks Ministries group adds accountability, encouragement, and human connection. These benefits, combined with what the Holy Spirit is revealing to you from God’s Word, act to transform your personal value system into a Biblical worldview.
